School Overview
School of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Life Sciences is one of the new schools in Changzhou University. The school was founded in 2010, by merging Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Department of Biological Engineering. During the process of its founding and developing, the school has received tremendous and generous support from Changzhou City government and local pharmaceutical companies.
The school has four majors in undergraduate level: Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmacy, Biological Engineering and Nursing, and two majors in postgraduate level: Pharmaceutical Engineering and Biochemical Engineering. Among them, the Pharmaceutical Engineering is a brand-name major in Jiangsu Province, which as the first one passed the Chinese engineering education professional certification in 2014. Nursing major is jointly constructed by the school and the Second People's Hospital of Changzhou City, which has filled the gaps in training senior nursing personnel in Changzhou area.
The school has several research institutes, including Institute of Medicine, Institute of Industrial Biotechnology and Institute of Pharmaceutical Formulation. The school has constructed the first class Biological Medicine Testing Center, Simulated Hospital, and Medicine Manufacturing and Quality Control Engineering Key Laboratory of Changzhou City. These centers and laboratories have provided excellent platform for talent training, discipline construction and industry development in the pharmaceutical field.
During the process of its founding and developing, School of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Life Sciences already has a capable, efficient and well-constructed team of teachers. The school has 45 full-time faculty, including 12 senior professional and technical position staff and 13 deputy ones. One of them is a distinguished professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program, China’s Ministry of Education. 36 of the full-time faculties hold PHD degrees. Among the school, the ratio of young teachers with postgraduate degrees has reached 100%, and 71% of the full-time faculty have overseas academic background, such as United States, Britain, France, Germany, Korea, Singapore, Japan, and the Netherlands.
The faculty members are very active in scientific research, and have strong capacity for independent innovation. The research projects of the school have been supported by national-level and provincial-level funds, including two projects from National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), dozens projects from provincial-level funding agencies, with total amount of 30 million RMB research fund. The faculty members have published over 1,000 papers in domestic and international scientific journals, more than 10 patent applications, and have been awarded over 10 Science & Technology Prize of Jiangsu Province.
Currently, the school has enrolled about 800 undergraduate students and about 120 graduate students. Since 2013, our students’ works have won two gold medals of the China College Student' Entrepreneurship Competition, one grand prize and one first prize of the Challenge Cup.
For the accordance to the national new strategy for developing pharmaceutical industry, the school is trying to integrate all resources, attract new talents, pursue scientific innovation, and develop a distinctive feature of the educational philosophy and sense of service.
